Samuel Ayling is a Sunshine Coast based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and high school teacher with over 8 years’ experience in the local music scene. Originally from Brisbane, Sam made his first strides in the music world studying and networking at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University on Jazz Saxophone from 2016 to 2018. During this time, he released an original singer/songwriter EP, performed in multiple jazz, pop and r&b groups, and began making plans for his major project titled This New Light. In 2019, Sam released ‘The Mountains’, a simple indie-folk tune that has since amassed almost 3 million streams on Spotify and continues to gain social media traction with over 33,000 reels created using its audio on Instagram. Since then, Sam has garnered a wealth of musical knowledge and experience: performing in 3 other bands (Buttermello, Julian Munyard & LOVELOVELOVE); composing original scores for various indie films; managing a 3-piece wedding/covers band, and; further releasing music under his moniker This New Light. Sam’s original songs have been received well both locally and internationally, with Snap Inc. signing a $7,000 non-exclusive licensing deal to use his work on a promotional video, as well as an Australian director including ‘The Mountains’ on a feature length film titled ‘Outback’. There is much to be excited for as Sam continues to push himself creatively in 2023. After selling out his first and second headline tours, Sam has made plans to hit the road once again, travelling from the Sunshine Coast all the way down to Ocean Grove, Victoria touring his new EP ‘maybe i forget’ this October.
