We have a huge variety of Volunteer positions on offer either pre-festival in the site build weeks, during the festival and even when the fun is over, and it is time to pack it all down. Grab a cuppa and read through the teams and positions on offer to find something that suits you.   

Join us behind the scenes – we need all different types of people and skill sets.  We need leaders and team players; we want people with experience and we’re happy to welcome new people to the festival family too! Whether you are volunteering for fun or for industry experience, there is a role for YOU! 

Volunteer Rewards 

Volunteering at Caloundra Music Festival is an experience you will never forget. You will make lifelong friends and see a side of the festival that only volunteers get to experience! We’ll also help keep your energy levels up by providing a light meal for each of your shifts. 

Our Volunteers also receive the following benefits: 

(Note: the below is a guide only, some festival areas may have alternate arrangements) 


  • 16 Volunteer Hours = 1 x Adult Weekend Ticket 
  • 32 Volunteer Hours = 2 x Adult Weekend Tickets (and so on) 
  • Shifts are a minimum 4 hours / max 8 hours per day. 

During Festival  

Volunteers are required to work 12 hours over the 3 festival days to receive free entry for themselves to enjoy the festival while not working.  

Additional hours may be worked to earn additional tickets, this will be by negotiation with the Volunteer Management Team.  

Shifts are a minimum 4 hours / max 8 hours per day. 

All ‘at event’ volunteers will receive a CMF Vollie Shirt. 

Post Festival  

No body ever wants to clean up after a party, right? But volunteers who show up for the clean-up are rewarded with a CMF2022 Season Ticket for every 8 hours worked! 

Pre & Post Festival Roles

Roles that have been filled have ‘FULL’ noted after the role name.

Administration Team - FULL

Working with us in the office is a great insight into what happens behind the scenes to ensure the Caloundra Music Festival is as awesome as possible! You need to have a great sense of humour to work in our crazy office and we need honest, organised and reliable people who are happy to get in and help get the jobs done! We have 2 types of Administration Assistant positions available:

1. Data Entry Assistant – we have so much information that we need to capture in the CMF database, you will need to be able to follow instructions and work independently. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suit and Access Databases. 

2. General Office Duties – there is so much to do! We need assistance with the collation of documents into folders, making copies, laminating, stuffing envelopes, stocktaking or anything and everything that is required.  This is a great role for students looking for some work experience or people who are not so confident on the computer. Must be able to follow instructions and work independently. 

All Admin Positions: 

Available Shifts: August – November | Applicants will need to be available at short notice and at various times of the day, we may need help either during or outside business hours. Planned rosters may be supplied for some duties. 

Capacity: 10 to 15 

Bar Set-Up / Pack-down Team - FULL

Are you ready to work hard and have fun at the same time? Are you capable of heavy lifting? 

You will be stocking all the bar fridges and freezers and assisting in set up of the three bars located across the festival site. Whilst experience in this area is a bonus it is not essential, but you must be prepared to work hard. 

Must Haves: Heavy lifting ability, energetic and enthusiastic; ability to work autonomously. 

Available Shifts:  27 – 30 Sep | 4 – 5 Oct Varied hours between 8am and 5pm 

Capacity: 10  

Site Assistants Team

Are you fairly handy? Don’t mind a hard days work? Comfortable with heavy lifting? Are you a wizz with a cable tie? We have the job for you! The site build happens pretty much every day over the 2 weeks leading up to the festival and we need to ensure there are enough hands on deck to create a safe, clean and beautiful festival site. You’ll be working as part of a great team, doing anything from securing shade cloth, setting out chairs and tables, putting up fence wrap and keeping the site clean. When the party’s over – it’s time to do it all in reverse: packing it down, cleaning and sorting equipment, clearing the site and so on. 

We also require at least 6 of our Site Assistants to complete the Event Traffic Marshalls (ETM) online training. ETMs will be able to assist with traffic and pedestrian management during setup and pack-down. ETMs must be 18+. Further information will be provided upon acceptance to the Site Assistants Team. 

Must Haves: Heavy lifting ability, handyman/woman, hardworking and a ‘get the job done’ attitude. Ability to follow directions, work autonomously or as part of a team.  

Available Shifts:   20 – 30 Sep | 4 – 8 Oct | Varied hours between 7am – 5 pm 

Capacity: 30 

Furniture, Fit Out & Equipment Team (FF&E)

The FF&E Team requires a highly motivated group of people who can handle a sometimes physically demanding role and are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.  

Pre-festival we need to receive, sort and distribute all the furniture, fixtures and equipment to where they need to be.  

Post-festival, when all the fun is over, we then need to collect everything and prepare it for either collection or storage for next year. 

Must Haves: Capable of heavy lifting, physical work and a team player. 

Available Shifts: 20 – 30 Sep | 4 – 8 Oct | Varied hours between 8am and 5pm  

Capacity: 20 

Signage Team - FULL

The Signage Team help install all festival signage! From timber directional signage, scrim, flags and corflute signage, there is lots of work to do! 

Once the festival is over, the Signage Team will then collect all signage, prepare it for storage and complete a signage stocktake. 

Must Haves: Able to follow directions and have an eye for detail. 

Available Shifts: 20 – 30 Sep | 4 – 8 Oct | Varied hours between 8am and 5pm.

Site Creative / Decoration Team - FULL

We are looking to assemble a team of talented people who will help us achieve the Festival’s creative vision this year. We need designers / stylers, builders and painters who can work together to create and install something special. We are keen to utilise your talents!

Must Haves: Those with design or styling experience, carpentry skills, painting and sign writing, or any other creative skills will be highly regarded. 

Available Shifts: 1 – 30 Sep | We may need help either during or outside business hours. Planned rosters may be supplied for some duties.

Site Stores Team - FULL

Are you a Marie Kondo fan? If so, we need you! 

We need a team of dedicated people who will help us set-up and operate the Festival Site Stores. There will be a lot of sorting, unpacking, and packing involved, as well as a bit of stocktaking! 

Pre-fest shifts you will play an important role in ensuring that each festival area gets all their ordered consumables and equipment. 

Post-fest shifts will need to receive stock back, sort and help stocktake and properly store goods. 

Must Haves: Ability to work autonomously. Ability to lift moderate to heavy items. 

Available Shifts: 20 Sep – 1 Oct | 4 – 8 Oct

At The Event Roles

Accreditation Team - FULL

Do you have great computer skills and are you great with people? Accreditation Assistants will assist with implementing the accreditation plan, ensuring staff and contractors are issued with the correct accreditation as required. You will need to gain an accurate, up-to-date knowledge of the festival ticket and wristband structure. The Accreditation office is a busy hub over the festival so you will need to be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure. 

The Accreditation Team is also responsible for the daily issuing, collection and recharging of site radios. 

Must Haves: Computer skills, ability to think on your feet, experience working under pressure, previous experience is ideal but not necessary 

Available Shifts:30 Sep, 1, 2, 3 October | Varied hours between 8am – 8pm  

Capacity: 10  

Artist Liaison Team (18+)

We are looking for some outstanding volunteers to join the Artist Liaison Team. You will need to: 

  • be self-motivated,  
  • have excellent interpersonal skills,  
  • be great at public relations,  
  • maintain confidentiality,  
  • have the skills to deal with the general public, artists and volunteers.  

You must have an ability to find the silver lining on every cloud, smile throughout the shift, support your fellow volunteers, proactively contribute to the positive team atmosphere and accept all tasks are never too big or too small for our groovy team!  

Working in the Artist Liaison Team is not all glitz and glamour.  This team works extremely hard around the clock to ensure that our performers, crew and their guests are looked after exceptionally well.   

Duties will include: 

  • cleaning dressing rooms  
  • cleaning the green room,  
  • assisting with Artist catering,  
  • assisting with Artist Registration office,  
  • maintaining the backstage areas and water refill stations,  
  • escorting artists to their stages among a variety of other tasks as and when required.   

As this is a highly sought-after role and one that requires a certain skill set, you will be required to provide contact details of a suitable referee that can vouch for your experience.   

Must Haves: Discretion and ability adhere to professional code of conduct with high profile artists. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 October | Various hours from 8am until midnight. 

Capacity: 25  

Bar Team - FULL
There are a number of positions available within our huge Bar Team. Whilst holding your RSA and having experience working in the industry is desirable, it is not essential.  

CMF bars are a really fun place to work over the festival weekend.  So, if you like a fast paced, fun and friendly atmosphere, the Bar Team is for you! 

There are 2 types of roles within the Bar Team:  

1. Bar Attendants – this position requires operating the Point of Sale system, the service of alcohol, maintaining cleanliness of  service points and bar areas in general, as well as helping with the stock control. Whilst experience working in a Bar or hospitality is a bonus it is not essential, but you must be able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure and be comfortable in serving alcohol! We will be looking for people with a fun and friendly attitude as you will be helping to create an awesome experience for our patrons!  

2. Bar Stockers – are you capable of heavy lifting, ready to work hard and have fun at the same time?  

This position requires the restocking of bar fridges and ice tubs and assisting in maintaining cleanliness of bar service areas. Whilst experience in this area is a bonus it is not essential, but you must be able to work quickly and precisely under pressure.  

Once you have been accepted into the Bar Team, volunteer management will request your preferred bar role. However, during busy peak times it is all hands on deck to get the job done! 

Must Haves: Confidence in working in a busy environment, positive and fun attitude. RSA and previous experience ideal but not necessary.

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 11am and 10.30pm. 

Capacity: 100 

Box Office Team - FULL

Box Office Attendants will be required to sell Festival tickets and must have experience in operating an EFTPOS machine and/or a Commbank ALBERT and/or a POINT OF SALE system. Being confident in using a computer and possessing excellent customer service skills is essential to this role as you will also be required to provide information to patrons and deal with festival related enquiries. Box Office Attendants will need to be able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure. 

Must Haves: Computer skills, EFTPOS / Point of Sale experience, positive attitude, customer service skills 

Available Shifts:1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 10am – 10pm   

Capacity: 10  

Communications Team

We are looking for people that are meticulously organised, efficient, patient and have fantastic verbal communication skills. Communications Officers monitor the festival’s radio channels, connecting the Festival Management Team and Area Managers so that they can resolve site, operational, risk or emergency issues.  

Data entry is an important part of this role, Communications Officers will need to update relevant information into the comms log. 

Due to the nature of this role you will be required to provide contact details of a suitable referee that can vouch for your experience. 

Must Haves: Exceptional communication skills, event radio experience, ability to multitask, understand and abide by confidentiality requirements, can do attitude.   

Available Shifts: 30 Sep, 1, 2, 3 & 4 Oct | Varied hours between 11am – 11pm  

Capacity: 10  

COVID Marshals

COVID marshals will be the legends of CMF2021!  

The festival will be adhering to all current QLD Health COVID-19 health restrictions and our COVID Marshals will be the superstars that help make this happen. Roles for marshals may include but will not be limited to: 

  • Line management 
  • Encouragement of physical distancing 
  • QLD Check-in App compliance checks 
  • Sanitiser stations 
  • Monitoring mask compliance 

Must Haves: Customer service skills, confident communication skills, knowledge and understanding of current QLD Heath restrictions  

Available Shifts:1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 11am – 10pm   

Capacity: 40  

Film & Photography Team - FULL

A specialty photographer will be assigned to each festival department to capture the vibe, the highlights, socials, as well as behind the scenes. Photographers must pull the images together to create a department image and footage portfolio.   

Festival Management will provide a Photography & Film Brief for each festival area, these will include the Area Supervisor contact details.  Area Supervisors can assist in directing you to the perfect time, space and locations within their area.  

You will be provided with access to a dedicated office space to process and submit your images and footage daily.   

Applicants wishing to join the film and photography team will be required to provide links to your online portfolio, and socials in your application.   

Must Haves: Own equipment. Creative eye. Ability to complete a brief. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 12pm – 10pm 

Capacity: 12  

Flying Squad Team

The Flying Squad volunteers will assist in many areas of the festival – providing support wherever required, sometimes at short notice. This may involve helping in other volunteer roles such as gate operations, crowd control, roving clean up, ticket sales, bar operations, site assistance, signage etc. This position is essential to keeping all areas of the Festival running as smoothly as possible by providing any/all necessary support.   

Essentially the role could be described as problem solving and troubleshooting and is a great ‘all-rounder’ position. This is a fantastic role for people interested in, studying or wanting experience in Events Management. 

Must Haves: Ability to think on your feet, ability to work autonomously, positive attitude. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 8am -11pm  

Capacity: 30  

Furniture, Fit Out & Equipment Team (FF&E)

The FF&E Team requires a highly motivated group of people who can handle a sometimes physically demanding role and are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.  

During the event we need to reset all the furniture each morning and make sure everything is in place before the gates open. FF&E volunteers will check all event signage each morning and make repairs as required.  

Note: The volunteers approved to this team will be required to do a minimum 4-hour night shift in a different festival team during the event

Must Haves: Capable of heavy lifting, physical work and a team player. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2, 3 Oct | Varied hours between 8am and 12pm  

Capacity: 6 

Funky Forest Team

Do you love children? Do you have lots of energy, a great big smile and enjoy working alongside children and their families? Then we want you on the Funky Forest team! The Funky Forest boasts a full program of fantastic activities to keep the young and the young at heart entertained over the Festival weekend. As a member of the Funky Forest team you may be required to assist in several tasks such as: 

  • monitor use of the kid’s activities in the area,  
  • facilitating craft activities,  
  • supervising the jumping castles,  
  • supervising sand play,  
  • ensuring that the programmed workshops run on time and  
  • assist with any other activities that have been organised.  

We will be looking for people that are full of energy and excitement and who will embrace their role by being willing to dress up. You must be patient and have experience or at least enjoy working with kids. Perhaps you would like to volunteer within the Face Painting Team? We need approximately 10 volunteers to work within the Funky Forest Face Painting Team. Do you have an artistic eye coupled with a love for kids? 

Must Haves: Blue Card Highly recommended but not necessary; love for children, creative and not afraid to paint your face and dress the part! 

Available Shifts:1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 11am – 7pm

Gates Team

The Gate Team is one of our largest teams at the festival, there are several different roles within the gates teams. Volunteers will be trained in all roles. These roles include: 

  • Ticket scanning 
  • Wrist banding 
  • Gate Ushers 

Must Haves: Positive attitude, happy, customer service experience 

Available Shifts:1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 11am – 10pm 

Capacity: 60 

Maitre D' Team

We are looking for people who are self-motivated and know how to have fun while getting the job done! We need a group of vollies that we can rely on to ensure that dining areas are always clean and tidy. You will be welcoming patrons into the dining areas, clearing and wiping down tables, then resetting areas as required. We know that this is not the most glamorous role available, but we always encourage our vollies to have a bit of fun while they are working. You have the opportunity to mingle and enjoy the atmosphere with festival patrons for your entire shift, so put on a smile, maybe a special outfit, and have some fun with it! 

Must Haves: Self-motivated, reliable and fun attitude. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 11am and 10.30pm. 

Capacity: 12 

MC - Master of Ceremonies Team

Are you confident and lively? Do you love to entertain and excite the crowd? Are you prepared to get to know the ins and out of the Festival program? Have you got experience in MC’ing?  

Well we are looking for some full of life super stars to get up on stage and MC! In this role you will be required to introduce/back announce bands, provide announcements to audiences including safety announcements and customer service announcements, as required. You will also be required to help keep the stages organised by ensuring unnecessary people are not on or around the immediate stage areas. You may also need to assist crew with equipment as required. 

Must Haves: As this is a highly sought-after role and one that requires a certain skill set, these positions are by referral ONLY.  We will be hand picking MC’s from previous festivals and events to suit the vibe of the stages. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 October | Varied hours between 11am – 10pm 

Capacity: 12 

Media Liaison Team

Have you got experience in working with the Media? Are you an excellent communicator, with a tonne of energy and a fabulous smile? Then apply here!!  In this role there are various media tasks including meet and greet, artist interviews, etc. We need you to provide friendly and efficient support and information to your team as well as media representatives to ensure they have a quality festival experience resulting in the best possible media outcome. 

Must Haves: Media experience 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 October | Varied hours between 1pm – 10pm

Patron Services Team

Do you love helping people, possess great customer service skills and have a friendly and welcoming nature? Yes, then please apply for the Patron Services team! 

Patron Services Assistants provide friendly and efficient support to festival patrons, to ensure they have a quality festival experience and return year after year. There are a variety of tasks that are the responsibility of the Patron Services Team, such as The Cloakroom, Patron Services Tent, Lost and Found service, providing information and directions, keeping an eye on all areas of the festival to ensure it is kept clean and bins are being emptied, helping patrons with accessibility needs, and generally ensuring that festival patrons are having a good time. 

Must Haves: Excellent communication skills, willingness to learn and a positive, fun attitude. Customer service experience highly regarded. 

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 9am and 10.30pm. 

Capacity: 80 

Stage Management Team

Have you got stage management skills? Are you organised and efficient? Have you got a ‘can do’ attitude? Stage Management Assistants position involves assisting with running an on-time stage program. Meeting and greeting artists, assisting the stage manager, reporting any issues or hazards and maintaining a clean and functional work area. It is paramount to always ensure a safe working environment, identifying and directing unnecessary people not be on or around the immediate stage areas. 

Must Haves: Previous experience, positive attitude, organised.  

Available Shifts: 1, 2 & 3 Oct | Varied hours between 8am – 11pm  

Capacity: 10   

Transport & Parking Team (18+)

Are you self-motivated, flexible, and capable of working on your own? Are you a great communicator with awesome problem-solving skills? Our Transport and Parking volunteers are the quiet achievers behind the scenes who ensure the smooth flow and use of transport services during the Festival.   

Tasks include: 

  • marshalling at the festival bus stops,  
  • manning restricted car parks,  
  • monitoring transport and parking services,  
  • capture transport and parking data,  
  • problem solving issues, and assisting patrons as required.  
  • assisting with basic traffic and crowd control duties for when people are arriving and leaving the festival site 
  • roving patrols of surrounding streets, reporting any potential or existing issues to supervisor 

Traffic & Parking volunteers will need to complete the online Event Traffic Marshals training. Details of this training will be provided upon acceptance to this team.  

As this role is not quite as glamorous as others, we will do our best to give you shorter shifts so you have more time to enjoy the event! 

Must Haves: At least 18 years+, have passed the online ETM Training Program to be eligible to be engaged as an ETM (we will organise this with you). Self-motivated, ability to work autonomously, strong communication skills

Waste Warrior Team

Are you an environmental warrior? Want to help keep the site sparkling clean? Happy to work early mornings? Our Waste Warrior Team will work to ensure we are meeting all our waste management goals in 2021. Tasks may include: 

  • Encouraging patrons to “Do the Right thing” and use the right bins 
  • Reporting and or removing full bins 
  • Conducting early morning site clean 
  • Keeping the site clean during the event 
  • Sorting collected waste to ensure everything is being disposed in the correct manner (cans, compost, general and recycle) 
  • Flattening and removing cardboard and soft plastics from behind the bar areas 

 Most shifts will be scheduled early in the morning, with a limited number scheduled after 6pm each day. 

Must Haves: Big smile, lots of green vibes, high energy

Capacity: 40  

Vollie HQ Team

Are you great with people? Can you work quickly and confidently on a computer? Are you a quick learner and a great communicator? Then come and join the Vollie HQ team! This role involves a variety of tasks including signing on volunteers, issuing Festival accreditation wristbands, controlling stock of safety equipment and other supplies to volunteers, monitoring and responding to any non-attendance, and assisting with volunteer hospitality if required. Having the ability to communicate effectively, with good computer skills, good customer service skills, be well-organised, friendly, honest and reliable is an essential requirement! 

Must Haves: Computer skills, organised, strong communication skills, efficient & happy!  

Available Shifts:  29, 30 Sept, 1, 2, & 4 Oct | Varied hours between 8am – 8pm  

Capacity: 15 

Vollie Lounge Team

Helping in the Vollie’s lounge makes you an instant crowd favourite, as your primary goal is to feed the hungry volunteers over the Festival weekend!  

COVID has changed how we will be operating the Vollie Lounge this year, there will be no food preparation or cooking required. You will be issuing pre-packaged items, assisting with stock control and helping to keep the Vollie Lounge clean and tidy at all times. 

Must Haves: Able to follow instructions, understand how to handle food safely, be friendly and approachable.  

Available Shifts: 29, 30 Sept, 1, 2, 3 & 4 Oct | Varied hours between 8am – 9pm
